By Rilio Mastrantonio: Aeon Flux is the type of movie that will be either loved or hated by most viewers. The movie takes place in a future society where the “chairman” saved society from a horrific disease (that is a new one, eh?) and society is monitoring everyone in a George Orwell 1984 way. The Monicans, lead by Aeon Flux are out to stop the evil government and the random disappearances of its citizens. The movie has a lot of high tech goodies for those that get into the technical aspect. Charlize Theron, Aeon Flux, is an assassin who is very good at her job and has some super-human traits after being “altered”. The other Monicans, especially Sithandra (Sophie Okenedo) the person with 2 normal hands and hands in place of her feet sometimes can be a little unsettling. Is it possible that her mean disposition comes from always have to do a handstand? An underlying theme in the movie is also a love story between the “chairman” and Aeon Flux which plays out nicely throughout the movie.

Aeon Flux has plenty of slow motion violence and Aeon Flux is not someone you want to mess with. The story line has been done so many times that it is going to take a very special movie to really grab any attention. The part of the movie that keeps you intrigued is the acting by Theron who plays the assassin well and plays a person who has flashbacks and doesn’t think she is human well. Other good points were the interaction between the misunderstood “Chairman Goodchild” (Marton Csokas) and his power hungry and somewhat twisted brother, Oren Goodchild (Jonny Lee Miller).

The movie is definitely geared towards the more mature teen and adult. There are scenes of violence right out of the “Matrix” and some sensual scenes. Also, there is a pretty disturbing scene where many petrified dead bodies are displayed, so I would caution the younger viewers away from this one.

Overall, if you are looking for some action and want to see an action movie on a rainy day then this one is a rent then a buy on DVD.
