Picture
Synopsis: In a bitter divorce settlement from her billionaire husband Rupert Mannion, Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham) becomes the new owner of British football club AFC Richmond. She's assisted by her Director of Football Operations, Higgins (Jeremy Swift), who formerly worked for her husband. Her first order of business is to fire the team's current manager and replace him with an idealistic all-American football coach Theodore "Ted" Lasso (Jason Sudeikis). Ted and his friend, assistant Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt) cross the pond to take up the management of the team's "long, albeit modest" history. Half a world away from his wife and child, Ted could use a friend. But he presses on, nevertheless. Richmond is about to change the way they're doing things — and from now on — that is the Lasso way.
Main Feature: Ted Lasso was a show that I was severely late to. I did choose to watch it during a time when I needed an injection of positivity and up-beat energy, and it proved more than that--the heart of the show the motivation for Lasso to be overly optimistic and the internal struggle he carried during that time. The show is fairly brilliant at that... until about two-thirds through the second season, when the show almost becomes self-aware of it's stature as an awards darling and the characters via the writers begin to act full of themselves a bit and situations gets too absurd; the writers didn't even seem to be trying. But don't let that discount the show as a whole. Sudeikis is a charmer in the role. Waddingham is a physical and comical presence. And co-creator Brett Goldstein adds to the writing and performing. I just wish it would've ended on a high note, each season better than the previous one.

Bonus Features: Literally zero extras. Supposedly, the standard Blu-ray of this set included a poster. Not even that is included. With a fourth season around the corner to debut on Apple TV, methinks they will go all-out once they show a finalization of the entire show.

Final Call: While Ted Lasso is a show to continue to cheer for, consistent quality wins and a thorough value of a full, expensive set like this will help make us continue to believe.

Grade: B+
