Picture
Synopsis: Driven by obsession and defying the laws of nature, Baron Victor Frankenstein dares to reanimate the dead, creating not just life, but a monstrous force beyond his control. As his experiments spiral into madness, Frankenstein must confront the consequences of playing God in a world unprepared for the horrors he unleashes.
Main Feature: I first discovered this film during a weekly viewing of Svengoolie. As a fan of the original Shelley novel that had a lasting impact on me, I was fascinated by the choices made to not just differentiate itself from the Universal classic but give a colorful aesthetic to the Shelley text. The Curse of Frankenstein on this superb Warner Archive 4K UHD release is a testament to the film's legacy. The multi-disc set contains both the UK and US cuts of the film in multiple aspect ratios. Whomever put this set into production was a true cinephile and horror aficionado. The extensive options to view various versions is astounding. And the UHD presentation is simply and truly sensational.

Bonus Features: With the extensive film versions also comes a full batch of excellent bonuses. Audio commentaries--new and old--populate the first two discs with the UK and US versions, respectively. New interviews from film historians and scholars to discuss individual aspects of the film also are a delight. Archival upscaled SD extras round out this complete and full set.

Final Call: The Curse of Frankenstein in this very alive 4K set shows the Hammer legacy a path forward for future restorations and defining film studies in physical media.
