Picture
Synopsis: Mark Whitacre is secretly rolling tape during a meeting of corporate honchos who are illegally fixing the price of food additives. Meeting after meeting, Mark rolls tape after tape. He's sure the tapes will make him a U.S. hero. What went wrong? Director Steven Soderbergh reteams with one of his Ocean's trilogy stars for a snappy skewering of big business based on the true story of the highest-ranking corporate whistleblower in U.S. history. Matt Damon portrays Whitacre, whip-smart and immensely likable even as his schemes become increasingly untethered. Pay attention to the fun and intrigue of The Informant! And be informed!
Main Features: The Informant has always been a delightful zany and very funny picture. The one serious actor is playing the bafofon while director Steven Soderbergh surrounds him with a cast of comic actors playing it straight. I wish the 4K presentation was one of a higher standard, considering Soderbergh's knack for the output of his work. Still, the film holds up very well, and like a certain very serious Soderbergh work of recent memory, remains timely as ever. Matt Damon truly goes for broke in playing Whitacre as such a likeable, charming and hilarious guy whose true motivations are not well-intended--or entirely his flt. a

Bonus Features: Very sparse--commentary from Soderbergh and writer Scott Burns, a few deleted scenes and the promotional trailer--are all that is it. Because this is a Warner Bros. manufacturing on demand title, no digital code.

Final Call: Despite it's lacking in the finish visual 4K upgrade, The Informant still has plenty of additive--artificial or not--that still provides relevant laughs and social commentary regardless.

Grade: B
