Synopsis: Bitter enemies. Warring dojos. New blood. Daniel and Johnny reignite old West Valley rivalries in this follow-up series to the Karate Kid films.
Main Feature: The original Karate Kid film came out not long after I was born. Watching it for the first time when I was younger, all I can recall is how out of touch I was with it. And now, it seems like a relic. In short, it was never a movie entry that I truly connected with. I recall the sequel fondly, mostly for the punching of fists thru car windows. But I digress. Needless to say, the series Cobra Kai was not one I would be attracted to as a fan. But for professional purposes, let's see what the hub-bub is all about. The series definitely plays into the nostalgia trend of the past decade or so. It can be fun, but it feels like fan service, so needless to say--like the films, it did not connect with me. Macchio and his old castmates do appear to be having fun, and I am sure the fans are, too, with his full six-season run.

Bonus Features: This is where the set is chock full of defined hardcore fandom must-haves. Deleted scenes, commentaries, bloopers, etc. This is an old school approach that I can appreciate. The type of extra depends on the season, but there is plenty for the old and new fans to experience.

Final Call: Cobra Kai: The Complete Series is definitely a hefty block of episodes and extras for fans to chop and sink their teeth into.

Grade: B-
