Picture
Synopsis: Little House on the Prairie, based on the young adult book series by Laura Ingalls Wilder, was one of the most beloved shows on television when it ran from 1974 to 1983. "Little House" told the story of the Ingalls family's life on a Minnesota farm in the late 1800s.
Main Features: Little House on the Prairie came during a time before my cognisant existence in the world of entertainment. But I was certainly aware of it despite not being in my wheel house as a child. Some friends' parents were tied to it as a show they grew up on and wanted to pass down to their children. Some took it, others did not. Regardless, the show is recognized as a classic, and I support that as well. In my first full visit to that little house, the HD presentation on this set is crisp while maintaining the old school broadcast TV look and feel. It's an appropriate remaster to fit the context. Storyline wise, it also is a relevant timepiece for any generation. It tackles many hardships and human stories from the past, currently occurring in the present and likely to repeat in the future. Even the hardest of hearts and coldest of spirits (which I can have lingering aspects of) can be cracked with Michael Landon's warmth of spirit to the role. This set is definitely one with a feel of historical preservation.

Bonus Features: Extras are sprinkled sparsely through the full set. Season 1 discs contain the audition tapes for Landon and co-star Melissa Gilbert. Other bonuses throughout amount to featurettes covering the show's legacy and archival specials aired during the shows original airings. Not much to speak of, overall.

Final Call: The Complete Series Blu-ray set Little House on the Prairie is one not merely for nostalgia but one of a legacy series with a timeless message to be shared thru generations.
