Synopsis: Superintendent Grodman of Scotland Yard built an airtight case into a noose around a killer's neck. Then, too late, evidence exonerates the hanged man. Grodman retires in shame. Then a new case -a diabolical locked-room murder- gives Grodman the chance to redeem himself.
Main Feature: The Verdict seems like such an under-the-radar type of film, even with Peter Lorre--the quintessential man of noir--as one of your main cast members. The film pulses with intrigue and a simple story of complication. The Warner Archive HD transfer is pretty solid, coming from a new 4K scan of the original negative. This visual presentation adds to the mood and atmosphere this film of intrigue and mystery carries. This isn't a dynamic, groundbreaking film, but new viewers (like myself) will enjoy the story concept.

Bonus Features: Two Looney Tunes shorts are carried in the extras (a Lorre lookalike character is contained in each one, tying it all together) with three radio drama shows rounding them out. No digital code, like most/all Warner Archive titles.

Final Call: The Verdict is a thrilling little film worthy of favorable judgment from juries of new and old.

Grade: B+
