DVD Review: Alfred Hitchcock Presents: The Legacy Collection

Featuring some of the most recognizable actors in Hollywood history including Robert Redford, Clint Eastwood, Steve McQueen, Joan Fontaine, Claude Rains, Walter Matthau, Thelma Ritter, Joseph Cotton, Peter Falk, Teresa Wright, Leslie Nielsen and Alfred Hitchcock's daughter Patricia, along with so many more, Alfred Hitchcock Presents is a groundbreaking series whose impact continues to resonate today.

Main Feature: Before The Twilight Zone, Night Gallery or any of those other classic episodic elements of horror & suspense-based entertainment, there was the master himself with his own show, influencing the listed successors, among many others. Along the way, it became a showcase for future stars like Robert Redford, Cloris Leachman, William Shatner, Suzanne Pleshette, Joanne Woodward, Steve McQueen and Bruce Dern, among countless others. And like any show of this stature, it's not perfect. There are lulls to match the highs. But how this DVD set (sadly not Blu-ray) lets the standards of the genre and Hitchcock, the bar to which anyone looking to hold people on the edge of their seat attained to meet, translated wonderfully to television. The 34-disc set deserves a nice HD transfer, but the picture isn't bad for the SD format of good ole DVD (played on by LG 4K player). 

Bonus Features: Not much to speak of here. An almost 15-minute "look back" featurette and brief look at the art of the show is about it. 

Final Call: While the master of suspense deserves more than a standard definition release, Alfred Hitchcock Presents: The Legacy Collection​ on DVD still offers viewers a good evening.
