CCFF 2018: The Guilty
✰✰✰✰ (out of five)
Synopsis: Alarm dispatcher and former police officer Asger Holm answers an emergency call from a kidnapped woman. When the call is suddenly disconnected, the search for the woman and her kidnapper begins.
Review: I appreciate the simplicity that "The Guilty" lays out on its premise, playing the ratcheted suspense like a wind up toy, each click of tension poised to either unleash or continue to increase. We don't know where the film is going. In essence, we are searching for the next step as much as Jacob Cedergren's Holm. Detectives typically get to search, wander and explore aspects of the film. But we can relate to Holm, being tied to our present surroundings and limited to subtle clues and wits. Its not a perfect mystery, but a nevertheless thrilling chain of suspense.
